HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Michele Clancy as
4she steps down from her leadership positions at Stroke
5Survivors Empowering Each Other Inc.; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Michele Clancy is a stroke-survivor who suffered a
7stroke on the morning of her 19th wedding anniversary; now
8married for 35 years to Tom Clancy, helping stroke survivors
9became and remains her passion; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Michele Clancy has an extensive volunteer
11history; from 2004 to the present she has been with Stroke
12Survivors Empowering Each Other Inc., whose mission is to
13improve the quality of life for current and future stoke
14survivors by building community, providing education, focusing
15on policies related to stroke, and giving a voice to stroke
16survivors and other key constituents; she is the organization's
17co-founder, president, treasurer, and serves on the board; she
18collaborated with the American Hearth Association to assist
19with State legislation for Primary Stroke Center guidelines;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, Michele Clancy has also volunteered with the
22American Heart Association Illinois Advocacy Board from

12001-present, participating in the Illinois State Stroke Lobby
2Day in 2006 and the Federal Heart and Stroke Lobby Day in 2008;
3she has volunteered with the Illinois State Stroke Task Force
4from 2010-present, the Illinois Disability and Health Program
5from 2012-present, and the Sharp Rehabilitation Center in San
6Diego, California, from 1998-2000; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Michele Clancy brought a great deal of
8professional experience to her volunteerism; from 2001-2006
9she worked for the Target Corporation in Minneapolis,
10Minnesota, as a pharmacy technician; from 1988-1999 she worked
11for Biosite Diagnostics Inc. in San Diego, California, as an
12animal health technician/vivarium technician and a research
13associate, and from 1987-1988 she worked for the Carmel
14Mountain Animal Hospital/Mesa Community College in San Diego,
15California, as a veterinary assistant/animal health technician
16intern; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Michele Clancy holds a bachelors of science in
18business administration with a concentration in industrial
19relations from Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, Michele Clancy has received the Eagle Spirit Award
22in May 2000 from the Sharp Rehabilitation Center for overcoming
23adversities after experiencing a stroke and for offering

1positive assistance to other stroke survivors, and the American
2Heart & Stroke Hero award in May 2006 from the American Heart
3Association-Midwest Affiliate in Chicago for championing the
4needs of fellow stroke survivors and helping create stroke
5awareness; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we congratulate Michele Clancy as she steps down from her
9leadership positions at Stroke Survivors Empowering Each
10Other, Inc., thank her for her commitment to aiding and
11improving the lives of stroke survivors, and we wish her well
12in all her future endeavours; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to Michel Clancy as an expression of our esteem and
15respect.
