HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On April 23, 1908, Congress authorized a Medical Reserve Corps-a reserve force of civilian medical officers who could be ordered to active duty by the Secretary of War during a time of national emergency to save the lives of American soldiers on the battlefield; and

WHEREAS, What began as a strategic reserve force of 160 physicians in the 20th century, is now a 21st century operational force with an authorized end strength of 200,950 U.S. Army Reserve soldiers, including over 6,680 U.S. Army Reserve soldiers in 30 locations in the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, The U.S. Army Reserve has responded with honor and valor to the call of the nation in times of need with over 12,000 Army Reserve soldiers now serving overseas; and

WHEREAS, The families and employers of the soldiers also contribute greatly to their success; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we proclaim April 23, 2013, as United States Army Reserve Day in the State of Illinois, honor our past and current citizen-soldiers for their service, and thank the friends, neighbors, and employees of the U.S. Army Reserve.
