HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, On April 23, 1908, Congress authorized a Medical
3Reserve Corps-a reserve force of civilian medical officers who
4could be ordered to active duty by the Secretary of War during
5a time of national emergency to save the lives of American
6soldiers on the battlefield; and
 
7    WHEREAS, What began as a strategic reserve force of 160
8physicians in the 20th century, is now a 21st century
9operational force with an authorized end strength of 200,950
10U.S. Army Reserve soldiers, including over 6,680 U.S. Army
11Reserve soldiers in 30 locations in the State of Illinois; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The U.S. Army Reserve has responded with honor and
13valor to the call of the nation in times of need with over
1412,000 Army Reserve soldiers now serving overseas; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The families and employers of the soldiers also
16contribute greatly to their success; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we proclaim April 23, 2013, as United States Army Reserve Day
20in the State of Illinois, honor our past and current
21citizen-soldiers for their service, and thank the friends,
