HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Irvana Wilks has served the people of Mount Prospect as mayor for 8 years; and

WHEREAS, Prior to her tenure as mayor, Irvana Wilks served for 14 years as a trustee on the Mount Prospect Village Board and 5 years as a member of the Business District Development and Redevelopment Commission before that; and

WHEREAS, Irvana Wilks served on the Cook County Economic Development Advisory Committee for 15 years; and

WHEREAS, Irvana Wilks has been an active participant in numerous charitable activities, including Kiwanis, United Way of Mount Prospect-Prospect Heights, and the League of Women Voters; and

WHEREAS, Irvana Wilks played a leading role in the economic development of Mount Prospect, overseeing the conversion of Randhurst Mall into the vibrant new Randhurst Village as well as maintaining a balanced budget after the recent financial crisis; and

WHEREAS, Irvana Wilks was a leader in addressing flooding and sewage issues through her service as director of North Cook County Soil and Water Conservation, her work with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County, and her promotion of the Levee 37 project, which protected homes along the Des Plaines River which had previously been vulnerable to flooding; and

WHEREAS, Irvana Wilks was an advocate for the poor and disabled, serving as vice-chair of the Northwest Housing Partnership and enabling the construction of Myers Place in Mount Prospect, a supportive-housing development for people with mental illness; and

WHEREAS, Irvana Wilks has been an energetic, effective, and motivated leader of the Mount Prospect Village Board who has fostered an atmosphere of respect, consensus, and achievement, and has made herself and her office available to all segments of the community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we are pleased to honor Mayor Irvana K. Wilks on her years of service to the citizens of Mount Prospect, and on all of her many accomplishments, and we wish her well in all of her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Irvana Wilks as an expression of our esteem and respect.
