HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Irvana Wilks has served the people of Mount
3Prospect as mayor for 8 years; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Prior to her tenure as mayor, Irvana Wilks served
5for 14 years as a trustee on the Mount Prospect Village Board
6and 5 years as a member of the Business District Development
7and Redevelopment Commission before that; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Irvana Wilks served on the Cook County Economic
9Development Advisory Committee for 15 years; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Irvana Wilks has been an active participant in
11numerous charitable activities, including Kiwanis, United Way
12of Mount Prospect-Prospect Heights, and the League of Women
13Voters; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Irvana Wilks played a leading role in the economic
15development of Mount Prospect, overseeing the conversion of
16Randhurst Mall into the vibrant new Randhurst Village as well
17as maintaining a balanced budget after the recent financial
18crisis; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Irvana Wilks was a leader in addressing flooding
20and sewage issues through her service as director of North Cook

1County Soil and Water Conservation, her work with the Solid
2Waste Agency of Northern Cook County, and her promotion of the
3Levee 37 project, which protected homes along the Des Plaines
4River which had previously been vulnerable to flooding; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Irvana Wilks was an advocate for the poor and
6disabled, serving as vice-chair of the Northwest Housing
7Partnership and enabling the construction of Myers Place in
8Mount Prospect, a supportive-housing development for people
9with mental illness; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Irvana Wilks has been an energetic, effective, and
11motivated leader of the Mount Prospect Village Board who has
12fostered an atmosphere of respect, consensus, and achievement,
13and has made herself and her office available to all segments
14of the community; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we are pleased to honor Mayor Irvana K. Wilks on her years of
18service to the citizens of Mount Prospect, and on all of her
19many accomplishments, and we wish her well in all of her future
20endeavors; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to Irvana Wilks as an expression of our esteem and
