HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize the Brookfield Historical Society as it celebrates the 125th anniversary of the Grossdale Station; and

WHEREAS, The historic Grossdale Station was constructed by real estate developer Samuel Eberly Gross in 1889; the station was the village's first public building; in 1905, Grossdale became Brookfield; and

WHEREAS, The Grossdale Station was used as a stop on the Burlington line until it was set to be demolished and replaced in 1977, but through the efforts of the Brookfield Historical Society, the station was purchased in 1981 and moved across the railroad tracks to its current home; and

WHEREAS, Countless hours of volunteer work went into restoring the exterior of the Grossdale Station to its 1889 appearance, and it is now one of the most distinctive historic buildings in the area; it is the oldest surviving public building in Brookfield and the oldest intact station on the Burlington commuter line; and

WHEREAS, The Grossdale Station has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1982; it now houses the Brookfield Historical Society and a museum featuring mementoes and artifacts from Brookfield's past, including a second floor station master's apartment; and

WHEREAS, The Brookfield Historical Society will be hosting a celebration event on October 26, 2014 at the Grossdale Station; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the Brookfield Historical Society as it celebrates the Grossdale Station's 125th anniversary; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Brookfield Historical Society as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
