HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former Homewood Village President and State Representative Manny Hoffman of Homewood; and

WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman was born on February 22, 1937; he graduated from Hirsch High School in 1955; he was a long-time insurance agent with State Farm and owned and operated the Manny Hoffman State Farm Insurance Agency in Homewood; he was a lifetime member of the State Farm President's Club, an organization of the company's top 50 agents nationwide; and

WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman was well-known for his diverse and active career of service in the Homewood-Flossmor area; he was president of the Homewood-Flossmor Park District's board of commissioners, chairman of the Cook County Republican Party, and was on the board for the Cancer Support Center, Irons Oaks, and the Prairie State College Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman was inducted into Homewood's Hall of Fame in October 2008; his first office was secretary of the village's volunteer fire department; he was village trustee from 1977 to 1985 and mayor from 1985 to 1991; and

WHEREAS, The Village of Homewood named a street Hoffman Way to honor his service; and

WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman represented the 37th District in the Illinois General Assembly from 1991 to 1993; he was appointed to the Illinois Labor Relations Board by Gov. Jim Edgar in 1993 and re-appointed to his fourth term as chairman by Gov. George H. Ryan; and

WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman was preceded in death by his wife, Judy; and

WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman is survived by his children, Larry, Debbie, and Julie; and his grandson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of former Homewood Village President and State Representative Manny Hoffman, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Manny Hoffman as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
