HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Honeywell UOP was founded in Chicago on June 17,
31914 to commercialize Jesse Adams Dubbs's thermal cracking
4process, which was the foundation for the modern oil refining
5industry; and
 
6    WHEREAS, More than 12,000 patents earned by Honeywell UOP
7have helped to develop the world's petroleum, automotive,
8transportation, and petrochemical industries; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Honeywell UOP pioneered dozens of revolutionary
10technologies including catalytic polymerization, fluid
11catalytic cracking, alkylation, isomerization, platforming,
12Parex, Oleflex, Uniflex, and methanol-to-olefins technology;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Honeywell UOP commercialized synthetic zeolites
15as adsorbents, catalysts, and technologies to remediate
16nuclear contamination; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Honeywell UOP pioneered environmental
18breakthroughs including desulfurized diesel fuel, lead-free
19gasoline, the catalytic converter, biodegradable detergents,
20and jet and diesel fuel made from renewable sources; and

1    WHEREAS, Honeywell UOP has developed technologies to
2ensure the economical use of natural gas resources and develop
3the global petrochemicals industry; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Honeywell UOP has contributed faculty, guest
5lecturers, and academic support to the Chemistry and Chemical
6Engineering Departments of Northwestern University since 1931;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Honeywell UOP employs more than 5,000 people
9worldwide, including nearly 2,000 in Illinois; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Honeywell UOP's Des Plaines headquarters - an
11important part of Honeywell's advanced technology portfolio,
12with nearly half of which is linked to improving energy
13efficiency - is today the industry's foremost center of
14research and development, the leading source of innovation for
15the world's oil and gas industry, and one of America's greatest
16commercial ambassadors; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we proclaim June 17, 2014 as Honeywell UOP Day for its century
20of service to the people of the State, the country, and the
21world; and be it further
