SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mike D. Stevens of Milan, who passed away on September 13, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Mike Stevens was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Charles A. and Carol A. (Tuck) Stevens on March 2, 1948; he served in the United States Army, where he completed Ranger and Jungle Operations Courses and a tour of duty in Vietnam; he earned his commission as a Second Lieutenant and completed his military service at the rank of First Lieutenant; he married Susan England in Las Cruces, New Mexico on September 4, 1979; and

WHEREAS, Mike Stevens worked in sales for most of his civilian life; he sold insurance for many years and also sold cars; he retired in 2007; and

WHEREAS, Mike Stevens was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Quad Cities Chapter 299; he was proud of his military service and spent his life trying to help veterans who had fallen on hard times; he was an advocate for incarcerated veterans transition programs and the Veterans Affairs Stand Down events; and

WHEREAS, Mike Stevens was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Susan; and

WHEREAS, Mike Stevens is survived by his daughter, Eve Stevens; his sons, Nate Summers and David Stevens; his grandchildren, Danielle Kae Stevens, Katelyn Summers, Haley Gruner, Tara Summers, and Orion Fletcher; his siblings, Sandra Bradshaw, Jack Stevens, and Gene Stevens; and many extended family members and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Mike D. Stevens and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mike Stevens as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
