SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mike D. Stevens of Milan, who passed away
4on September 13, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Stevens was born in Sault Ste. Marie,
6Michigan to Charles A. and Carol A. (Tuck) Stevens on March 2,
71948; he served in the United States Army, where he completed
8Ranger and Jungle Operations Courses and a tour of duty in
9Vietnam; he earned his commission as a Second Lieutenant and
10completed his military service at the rank of First Lieutenant;
11he married Susan England in Las Cruces, New Mexico on September
124, 1979; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mike Stevens worked in sales for most of his
14civilian life; he sold insurance for many years and also sold
15cars; he retired in 2007; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Mike Stevens was a member of the Vietnam Veterans
17of America Quad Cities Chapter 299; he was proud of his
18military service and spent his life trying to help veterans who
19had fallen on hard times; he was an advocate for incarcerated
20veterans transition programs and the Veterans Affairs Stand
21Down events; and

1    WHEREAS, Mike Stevens was preceded in death by his parents
2and his wife, Susan; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Mike Stevens is survived by his daughter, Eve
4Stevens; his sons, Nate Summers and David Stevens; his
5grandchildren, Danielle Kae Stevens, Katelyn Summers, Haley
6Gruner, Tara Summers, and Orion Fletcher; his siblings, Sandra
7Bradshaw, Jack Stevens, and Gene Stevens; and many extended
8family members and friends; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Mike D. Stevens and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Mike Stevens as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
