SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of George Delhaye of Westville, who passed
4away on August 27, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, George Delhaye was born in Westville to Louis and
6Helen Ames Delhaye on October 3, 1936; he attended Westville
7schools and graduated in 1955; he joined the United States Navy
8Reserve; he married Sonna Shaw on September 9, 1957; and
 
9    WHEREAS, George Delhaye entered the workforce at an early
10age and began his career at Davies Packing Company; he then
11worked in building maintenance for Tee Pak and retired in 1999
12after 35 years of service; he was a member of the United Food
13and Commercial Workers Union Local 686; and
 
14    WHEREAS, George Delhaye was dedicated to the Village of
15Westville; he was Chairman of the Westville Historical Depot
16and Museum; he was instrumental in linking the past to the
17present, most recently with "Our Town Westville," a featured
18segment on WCIA Channel 3; he helped coordinate the Lithuanian
19Day in Westville, the new heritage flag, and the new historical
20mural and coal cars at the depot grounds; as a local historian,
21he spent many hours collecting and displaying memorabilia,
22gathering donations, guiding tours, teaching students, and

1making sure the depot was maintained; he was honored alongside
2all committee members of the Westville Depot as Honorary
3Marshals of the Annual Westville Labor Day Parade and
4Celebration in 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, George Delhaye was an avid sportsman; early in
6life, he enjoyed hunting ducks, geese, rabbits, squirrels, and
7doves; his passion was deer hunting; he was also an experienced
8angler with a wealth of knowledge; he was a master craftsman
9and built his own fishing rods and tackle; he owned Rod
10Crafters and was proud of the custom lures he created; he
11fished many lake and river systems with his son, Gary; he
12enjoyed looking for morel and fall mushrooms; he was a
13dedicated gardener, and his yard was featured on the Vermilion
14County Garden Walk sponsored by the Master Gardeners; he
15enjoyed visiting antique shops, flea markets, and garage sales;
16he had a true humanitarian spirit and was the epitome of
17volunteerism; he loved his family, friends, and community; and
 
18    WHEREAS, George Delhaye was preceded in death by his
19parents; his wife of 50 years, Sonna; his brother, Richard; and
20his sister, Mae Carstens; and
 
21    WHEREAS, George Delhaye is survived by his sister, Maryann
22(Delhaye) Shapuras; his brother-in-law, Bob Shapuras; his
23sons, Jim (Christine) Delhaye and Gary (Laurie Danzl) Delhaye;

1his daughter, Georgette (Charles) Sermersheim; his
2grandchildren, Joey, Elly, and Maddy Sermersheim and Amy
3Michelin; his great-grandchildren, Aubrie Michelin, Oliver,
4and a great-granddaughter on the way; and several nieces,
5nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8George Delhaye and extend our sincere condolences to his
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of George Delhaye as an expression of
13our deepest sympathy.
