SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Susan Marie Rogal of LaSalle, who passed away on April 19, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Susan Rogal was born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan to Allyne Cushing and Marie Dorman Litchfield on December 28, 1934; she attended Grosse Pointe Country Day School; she earned her associate's degree from Colby Junior College in New London, New Hampshire; she earned her Bachelor or Arts in Music and her M.M. in Piano Performance and Literature from the University of Michigan; she married Samuel J. Rogal at Grosse Pointe Memorial Presbyterian Church on August 14, 1965; and

WHEREAS, Susan Rogal held positions on the music faculties of the public schools in Grand Rapids, Michigan, followed by appointments to the music departments of Oregon College of Education in Monmouth, Oregon and Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa; following her marriage, she maintained private piano studios in Ames, Iowa, Oswego, New York, West Point, Mississippi, and LaSalle; she also directed Presbyterian Church choirs in West Point, Mississippi and Normal; and

WHEREAS, Susan Rogal lived in LaSalle for more than three decades; she dedicated herself to the teaching of hundreds of students, impressing upon them the culture and intellectual values of appreciating music and of achieving both competence in as well as enjoyment from piano performance; she and her husband moved from LaSalle to Normal in August 2017; and

WHEREAS, Susan Rogal is survived by her husband, Samuel; her sons, Geoffrey Carver Rogal and James Paul (Jenni) Rogal; her sister, Sally (Patrick) McEvoy; and her grandchildren, Mamush, Sitota, Fekadu, Azaria, and Reverie Rogal; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Susan Marie Rogal and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Susan Rogal as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
