SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gene M. Key of Hampton, who passed away
4on September 25, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gene Key was born in rural Trenton, Missouri to
6Fred and Deloris (Metsker) Key on October 31, 1940; he
7graduated from high school in Trenton and married Carlotta
8McClullen; he married Donna Wilde Willeford in Hampton on
9November 13, 1971; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Gene Key and his family moved to the Quad Cities,
11and he started work at John Deere Harvester before being
12drafted into the U.S. Navy; he later went to work at
13International Harvester; he retired from Case Tenneco in 1992,
14where he spent all 33 years in the steel receiving department;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Gene Key and his family liked to travel; their
17first trip was to Disneyland, and they visited numerous state
18capitals; he enjoyed mowing the grass, sitting in his rocking
19chair on the front porch, hanging out with his friends at the
20Keg, visiting the gun club, and attending fish fries; he
21especially enjoyed bowling and joined three different leagues;
22his favorite job was being first mate on Skip's pontoon boat;

1he liked everybody, and everyone liked him; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Gene Key was preceded in death by his son, William
3Michael; his parents; his brother, Ronaldeen Key; and his
4sister, Annielea Blattnar; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gene Key is survived by his sons, Joseph (Angie)
6and Daniel (Vicki) Key; his bonus daughter, Diana (Chris)
7Erling; his grandsons, Dustin (Tosha) Key and Ryan and Shane
8Jochim; his granddaughter, Bailey Erling; his
9great-grandchildren, Arista and Aiden Key; and his brothers,
10Freddie (Carrol) and Buddie Key; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Gene M. Key and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
14friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Gene Key as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
