SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of William L. "Bill" Portugue of Edgington, who passed away on September 27, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Bill Portugue was born to C. Quentin and Helen M. Portugue on November 8, 1947; he graduated from Winola High School in 1965 and married Roxie on November 28, 1970; he served in the United States Coast Guard from 1970 to 1974 and was a reservist for many years; and

WHEREAS, Bill Portugue retired from John Deere in 2012 after 46 years; and

WHEREAS, Bill Portugue enjoyed lighthouses, the water, traveling with his wife and family, staying home, and history; most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and teaching his grandchildren about nature; and

WHEREAS, Bill Portugue was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Michael; and his son, David; and

WHEREAS, Bill Portugue is survived by his children, Tonya Odgen, Kathy (Steve) Hyde, and William D. (Angela) Portugue; his grandchildren, Amber, Kayla, Kim, Kelly, Lindsey, Dalton, Kylie, Taygen, Gracie, and Izibella; his great-grandchildren, Gabe and Shire; his siblings, Daniel Portugue and Christine Carlton; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of William L. "Bill" Portugue and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bill Portugue as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
