SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donald E. "Gus" Kissel of Springfield,
4who passed away on September 13, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gus Kissel was born in Ottawa to John F. and Anne
6(Kelly) Kissel on August 8, 1931; he graduated from St. Bede
7Academy in Peru and attended Purdue University; he served in
8the U.S. Army and married Margaret A. Roach at St. Patrick
9Catholic Church in LaSalle on June 20, 1953; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Gus Kissel worked for Illinois Bell for 38 years
11as a forecaster; he retired in 1990; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Gus Kissel was named to the Chicago Tribune
13All-State Football Team and is in the St. Bede Athletic Hall of
14Fame for his football skills; he was a member of the Bell
15Pioneers and the Elks Lodge; he enjoyed golfing, spending
16winters in Florida, football, baseball, and reading westerns;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Gus Kissel was preceded in death by his parents;
19his granddaughter, Megan Leigh Kissel; and his brother, John F.
20Kissel; and

1    WHEREAS, Gus Kissel is survived by his wife, Marge; his
2sons, Tom (Darla), Jim (Tammy), and Ken (Michelle) Kissel;
3seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his brother,
4Robert (Bebe) Groter; and several nieces and nephews;
5therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Donald E. "Gus" Kissel and extend our sincere condolences to
9his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Gus Kissel as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
