SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of David Kenly Ashbrook of Bloomington-Normal, who passed away on August 9, 2020; and

WHEREAS, David Ashbrook was born to Clara and Arthur Ashbrook on a small farm near Sullivan; he attended the University of Illinois where he met his wife, Norma; he graduated with his lieutenant bars from ROTC and then served two years in the Army; and

WHEREAS, David Ashbrook had a long career in commercial real estate sales, through which he brought many companies and jobs to Bloomington-Normal; and

WHEREAS, David Ashbrook was active in his community; he served as a Unit 5 School Board member for nine years, as president of the Corn Belt Council of School Boards, and as director of the Illinois Association of School Boards; he also served as president of the Friends of Milner Library and as president of the McLean County Historical Society; he was active in First Presbyterian Church and Habitat for Humanity and was a great enthusiast for Barn Keepers, the McLean County-based group devoted to preserving and celebrating old barns; he was chaplain of the Illinois Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (ILSAR) and was the ILSAR Man of the Year in 2015; and

WHEREAS, David Ashbrook reveled in his reputation for jokes and pranks and loved to share family history; he was a devoted father and grandfather; and

WHEREAS, David Ashbrook was preceded in death by his parents and his wife; and

WHEREAS, David Ashbrook is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Ashbrook Maurer; his sons, Todd and Tom Ashbrook; his grandchildren, Dylan, Benjamin, Samuel, Kenly, Gabriel, Lauren, Kylie, Eli, and Jonathan; his great-grandchildren, Evie Jean, Rowan, and Isabel; and his good friend, Marge Smith; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of David Kenly Ashbrook and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of David Ashbrook as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
