SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Duane A. "Butch" Mathis of Beach Park, who passed away on February 27, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Butch Mathis was born to Wayne and Vivian (Allen) Mathis in Waukegan on April 11, 1941; and

WHEREAS, Butch Mathis worked for Abbott Labs, retiring in 1996 after 37 years of service; and

WHEREAS, For the past 54 years, Butch Mathis was a lifetime member of the Zion Moose Lodge; and

WHEREAS, Butch Mathis was an avid cribbage player, liked country music, and enjoyed working in his garage; he loved the Green Bay Packers, the Atlanta Braves, and traveling to his property up north in Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, Butch Mathis was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife, Nancy; and his daughter-in-law, Laura Mathis; and

WHEREAS, Butch Mathis is survived by by his two loving sons, Kenneth (Lynn Tester) Mathis and Scott (Teresa Nelson) Mathis; his first wife and the mother of his sons, Mary Johnson; his second wife's children, Dan Capell, Dave Capell, and Rita Richardson; his sister, Karen (Bruce) Miller; his grandchildren, Jacob Mathis, Jennifer Capell, Jim (Kimber) Richardson, and Joe (Marlana) Richardson; his great-grandchildren, Elise, Vinny, Eva, Gabriel, Benjamin, and Rebecca; his nieces and nephews, Brock (Julianna) Miller, Derek (Jennifer) Miller, and Heather (Christopher) Harrison; and his great nieces and nephews, Brianna, Brandt, Zachary, Samantha, Madison, and Payton; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Duane "Butch" A. Mathis and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Butch Mathis as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
