SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Phillip Jay "Flip" Mandel of Costa Mesa, California, formerly of Peoria, who passed away on March 24, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Phillip Mandel was born to Dorothy Van De Veer Mandel and Harold R. Mandel on September 5, 1951; he grew up and spent most of his adult life in Peoria; he moved to Southern California in February 2017; and

WHEREAS, Phillip Mandel was a gifted interior designer, appreciated for his ability, taste, and timeless design; he was exceptionally skilled at translating a vision into reality; and

WHEREAS, Phillip Mandel was known for his tender heart, unconditional support, wit, candor, and intuition; he enjoyed playing bridge, vacationing with family and friends, listening to classical music, eating chocolate ice cream, and spending time with his grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Phillip Mandel is survived by his husband, Gerald Haley; his daughter, Jenny Mandel; his son, Jordan (Crystal) Mandel; his grandchildren, Micah Rubin Mandel and Cora Jade Mandel; his sisters, Nancy (William) Suwalski and Heidi (Keith) Turcot; and his many cherished nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Phillip Jay "Flip" Mandel and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Phillip Mandel as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
