SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Arthur G. Holland of Hinsdale, who passed
4away on April 11, 2017, at the age of 86; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Arthur Holland was born on October 4, 1930; he
6graduated from Proviso High School in 1948 and Northwestern
7University in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science in Health
8Education and Physical Education; he later received his
9master's degree from George Williams College in 1954 in the
10same field; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Arthur Holland was passionate about youth
12development, healthy living, and social responsibility; he was
13always willing to put his all into the betterment of others
14around him; his collaborative spirit made a huge impact on
15those with whom he worked; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Arthur Holland spent his entire career with the
17YMCA, first at the West Cook YMCA, formerly known as the Oak
18Park YMCA, and then at the Northwest Suburban YMCA, followed by
1912 years with the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago before returning
20to the West Cook YMCA; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Arthur Holland was a lifelong member of the Oak

1Park YMCA, and held the title of President/CEO of West Cook
2YMCA for 20 years; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Arthur Holland will long be remembered for his
4selfless dedication to the community and the YMCA; his
5influence remains at the Y where many of the programs and
6philosophies reflect his passion for helping people be their
7best selves; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Arthur Holland was an avid pilot; he enjoyed
9teaching the skills of flying to many students during his 49
10years as a member of the Naperville Flying Club; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Arthur Holland was also a man of deep faith; he
12was a devoted member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ and
13the Oak Park and Hinsdale Rotary Clubs for over 40 years,
14exemplifying the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self"; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Arthur Holland was also a loved member of the
16Quinn's Coffee House family; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Arthur Holland was known by family and friends to
18be a great inspiration and motivator; he also brought the joy
19of life into everything he did; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Arthur Holland was preceded in death by his

1parents and his grandson, Brandon Fuller; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Arthur Holland is survived by his wife of 53
3years, Joan (Sawyer); his daughter, Becky Fuller; his
4grandchildren, Briana (Sean) Ballard and Jordan, Hunter, and
5Trenton; and his great-grandson, Liam Ballard; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Arthur G. Holland, and extend our sincere condolences to his
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Arthur Holland as an expression of
13our deepest sympathy.
