SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Archie L. McKelvie of Rock Island, who passed away on September 16, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie was born in Alexis to Archie Logan and Fern McKelvie on September 20, 1925; and

WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War; during World War II, he served in Europe with the Third Army, 80th Division Company G 317th Infantry; he was awarded three overseas Service Bars, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Battle Stars - Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe - plus the Purple Heart and the World War II Victory Medal; he was wounded at Eolschuiller, France on November 26, 1944; during the Korean War he served with the 399th Ordnance Battalion, a unit comprised of men from the Quad-City area; and

WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie worked for the U.S. Army Weapons Command at the Rock Island Arsenal for over 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie was a member of the Two Rivers Methodist Church for over seven decades; he was also a Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and the Moose and Elks Clubs; he was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and was the descendant of over 16 Revolutionary Patriots; both of his grandfathers served in Illinois volunteer units during the Civil War; and

WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie enjoyed music and singing; he was a member of his church choir for many decades and active in several barbershop quartet groups; he participated in many musical competitions, most notably the CASI Senior Olympics, winning many awards; he was honored to have been named to their Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Jane Pempek, Clyde Raymond McKelvie, and Joan Deuger; and

WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie is survived by his sons, Ronald, Robert, and Daniel; his grandchildren, Kevin and Eric McKelvie and Jennifer Fielder; six great-grandchildren; his longtime companion, June Britton; and his brother-in-law, Don Deuger; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Archie L. McKelvie, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Archie McKelvie as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
