SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Archie L. McKelvie of Rock Island, who
4passed away on September 16, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie was born in Alexis to Archie Logan
6and Fern McKelvie on September 20, 1925; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie served in the United States Army
8during World War II and the Korean War; during World War II, he
9served in Europe with the Third Army, 80th Division Company G
10317th Infantry; he was awarded three overseas Service Bars, the
11European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze
12Battle Stars - Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and
13Central Europe - plus the Purple Heart and the World War II
14Victory Medal; he was wounded at Eolschuiller, France on
15November 26, 1944; during the Korean War he served with the
16399th Ordnance Battalion, a unit comprised of men from the
17Quad-City area; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie worked for the U.S. Army Weapons
19Command at the Rock Island Arsenal for over 30 years; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie was a member of the Two Rivers
21Methodist Church for over seven decades; he was also a Mason, a

1Shriner, and a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and the
2Moose and Elks Clubs; he was a member of the Sons of the
3American Revolution and was the descendant of over 16
4Revolutionary Patriots; both of his grandfathers served in
5Illinois volunteer units during the Civil War; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie enjoyed music and singing; he was
7a member of his church choir for many decades and active in
8several barbershop quartet groups; he participated in many
9musical competitions, most notably the CASI Senior Olympics,
10winning many awards; he was honored to have been named to their
11Hall of Fame; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie was preceded in death by his
13parents and his siblings, Jane Pempek, Clyde Raymond McKelvie,
14and Joan Deuger; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie is survived by his sons, Ronald,
16Robert, and Daniel; his grandchildren, Kevin and Eric McKelvie
17and Jennifer Fielder; six great-grandchildren; his longtime
18companion, June Britton; and his brother-in-law, Don Deuger;
19therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Archie L. McKelvie, and extend our sincere condolences to his

1family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
2further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Archie McKelvie as an expression of
5our deepest sympathy.
