SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John Paul Rygiel Sr. of Spring Grove, who
4passed away on August 24, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Rygiel was born in North Chicago to Paul and
6Anna (Stanczak) Rygiel on March 8, 1928; he graduated from Holy
7Rosary School in North Chicago and Waukegan Township High
8School; he married Betty Kula at Holy Rosary Church on October
923, 1948; and
 
10    WHEREAS, John Rygiel retired as captain with the North
11Chicago Police Department after 30 years of dedicated service;
12he followed that with a second career as director of security
13at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in
14North Chicago; and
 
15    WHEREAS, John Rygiel was a member of St. Peter's Catholic
16Church of Spring Grove, the Polish Roman Catholic Union of
17America, the Illinois Police Association, and the Knights of
18Columbus, where he served as a former Grand Knight; he was also
19a member of the Holy Name Society, where he served as a past
20president; his favorite role in life was that of loving
21husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; and

1    WHEREAS, John Rygiel was preceded in death by his parents;
2his father and mother in-law, Walter and Katherine Kula; his
3son, John P. Rygiel Jr.; his sisters, Tillie (Edward) Beres,
4Adeline (Edward) Wozniak, Millie (Walter) Macrowski, and Mary
5Ann Kaucic (Frank); his brothers, Edward, Joseph, Aloysius, and
6Paul Jr.; his brothers-in-law, Richard J. Kula (Darlene) and
7Bobby D. Jackson (Annette); his nephew, Richard C. Kula; his
8niece, Jessica Przybylo; and his Godson, Paul Beres; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Rygiel is survived by his wife of 68 years,
10Betty; his sons, Joseph, William (Brenda), Michael J. (Carol),
11and Anthony (Jean) Rygiel; his daughter, Mary Ellen (Peter)
12August; his daughter-in-law, Karen Wills Rygiel; his
13grandchildren, Katherine Morey, John Niemietz, Joe (Michelle
14Christiansen), and Brian Rygiel, Kristy (Tom) Bequette,
15William II, Jason, Patrick, and Brittany Rygiel, Michael C.
16Rygiel, Amanda (Tom) Woodruff, Kathryn (Matt) LaBuda, Rachel
17(Sam) Simpson, Grace August, and Anthony, Andrew, Matthew,
18Zachery, and Daniel Rygiel; his great-grandchildren, Brittany
19and Amanda Morey and Eloise Rygiel; numerous nieces, nephews,
20and friends; and his dog, Chico; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
23John Paul Rygiel Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his
24family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to the family of John Rygiel as an expression of our
4deepest sympathy.
