SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John Paul Rygiel Sr. of Spring Grove, who passed away on August 24, 2017; and

WHEREAS, John Rygiel was born in North Chicago to Paul and Anna (Stanczak) Rygiel on March 8, 1928; he graduated from Holy Rosary School in North Chicago and Waukegan Township High School; he married Betty Kula at Holy Rosary Church on October 23, 1948; and

WHEREAS, John Rygiel retired as captain with the North Chicago Police Department after 30 years of dedicated service; he followed that with a second career as director of security at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago; and

WHEREAS, John Rygiel was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church of Spring Grove, the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America, the Illinois Police Association, and the Knights of Columbus, where he served as a former Grand Knight; he was also a member of the Holy Name Society, where he served as a past president; his favorite role in life was that of loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; and

WHEREAS, John Rygiel was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother in-law, Walter and Katherine Kula; his son, John P. Rygiel Jr.; his sisters, Tillie (Edward) Beres, Adeline (Edward) Wozniak, Millie (Walter) Macrowski, and Mary Ann Kaucic (Frank); his brothers, Edward, Joseph, Aloysius, and Paul Jr.; his brothers-in-law, Richard J. Kula (Darlene) and Bobby D. Jackson (Annette); his nephew, Richard C. Kula; his niece, Jessica Przybylo; and his Godson, Paul Beres; and

WHEREAS, John Rygiel is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty; his sons, Joseph, William (Brenda), Michael J. (Carol), and Anthony (Jean) Rygiel; his daughter, Mary Ellen (Peter) August; his daughter-in-law, Karen Wills Rygiel; his grandchildren, Katherine Morey, John Niemietz, Joe (Michelle Christiansen), and Brian Rygiel, Kristy (Tom) Bequette, William II, Jason, Patrick, and Brittany Rygiel, Michael C. Rygiel, Amanda (Tom) Woodruff, Kathryn (Matt) LaBuda, Rachel (Sam) Simpson, Grace August, and Anthony, Andrew, Matthew, Zachery, and Daniel Rygiel; his great-grandchildren, Brittany and Amanda Morey and Eloise Rygiel; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends; and his dog, Chico; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John Paul Rygiel Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Rygiel as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
