SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Rose A. Jurkovac, who passed away on August 20, 2017, at the age of 104; and

WHEREAS, Rose Jurkovac was born in Waukegan to Jacob and Mary Smole on September 2, 1912; and

WHEREAS, Rose Jurkovac was employed by the US Envelope Company for 32 years until her retirement in 1976; and

WHEREAS, Rose Jurkovac was a former member of Mother of God Church and Queen of Peace Church; she was active in numerous organizations: St. Anne's and St. Joseph KSKJ Lodges, the Croatian Fraternal Union of America Lodge 75, the Steel Workers Retirees Club, The Pensioners Club of Slovenska Pristava, Waukegan/North Chicago Senior Citizens, the Catholic Women's Club, the St. Therese Auxiliary, and the AARP Lake County Chapter 150; she volunteered for many years with the American-Croatian Waukegan Tamburitzans, working as the cashier for their Friday night fish fry; and

WHEREAS, Rose Jurkovac cherished her family and friends and had an overwhelming love for animals; a stray dog or cat always found a loving home with her; and

WHEREAS, Rose Jurkovac was preceded in death by her husband, Emil; her parents; her brothers and sisters, Mary, John, Sophie, and Frank; and an extended family granddaughter, Julie Cobb; and

WHEREAS, Rose Jurkovac is survived by her children, Robert Jurkovac, Richard (Pam) Jurkovac, and Carol (Jim) McDonough; her grandchildren, Chip (Peggy) Jurkovac, Cindy (John) Zucarro, Ronnie (Lisa) Martin, Ryan McDonough, Kyle (Layla) McDonough, Nikki (Carmen) Richard, Sandy and Lisa Jurkovac, and Chelsey (Carlos) Perez; her extended family grandchildren, Jill (Pete) Hernandez, Jim (Kim) McDonough, Steve McDonough, Elizabeth Nevill, Anne (Larry) McNally, and Amy McDonough; 32 great-grandchildren and extended family great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Rose A. Jurkovac, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rose Jurkovac as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
