SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Margarita M. Rodriguez of Joliet, who
4passed away on July 31, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Margarita Rodriguez was born in Rincon de Tamayo,
6Guanajuato, Mexico to Antonio and Josefa (Melecio) Montoya on
7January 1, 1925; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Margarita Rodriguez was an active and dedicated
9member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and the Grupo
10Guadalupano; she was a catechist and the church wedding and
11quinceanera coordinator for many years; she loved coordinating
12the Profiestas Pageant, teaching waltz to courts of honor,
13working with brides in making their wedding plans at the
14church, and instructing Baile Folklorico; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Beginning in 1956, Margarita Rodriguez served
16alongside her husband, Navor, in chairing the Mexican
17Independence Celebration and on the Profiestas Patrias
18committee; she was also a former board member of the Spanish
19Community Center; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Margarita Rodriguez was a strong, independent,
21giving, and spiritual woman who promoted leadership, culture,

1and tradition throughout her life; she was recognized on many
2occasions for her community service and was the recipient of
3numerous awards; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Margarita Rodriguez was preceded in death by her
5husband of 49 years, Navor J. Rodriguez; her parents; two
6brothers; and two sisters; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Margarita Rodriguez is survived by her children,
8Anthony (Elvira) Rodriguez, Joseph (Abigail) Rodriguez, and
9Ayfa Marge (Jorge) Franchini; her grandchildren, Nicole
10(Frank) Silva, Joseph (Dayana) Rodriguez, Victoria (Richard)
11Guzman, Jennette Rodriguez, Daniel (Cristine) Rodriguez,
12Cristina (Luis) Centeno, Adrian (Gabriela) Chavez, and
13Michael, Alexis, and Talia Franchini; her great-grandchildren,
14Anthony and Christian Silva, Christopher Gonzalez, Julian
15Rodriguez, Gabriela, Annabelle, and Diego Guzman, Teresa,
16Audrey, Mia, Ava, Emilia and Evelyn Rodriguez, Luis, Julian,
17and Violet Centeno, Adrianna, and Mia Chavez, and Elijah
18Franchini; her brothers, Rev. Samuel Montoya and Angel Montoya;
19and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Margarita M. Rodriguez, and extend our sincere condolences to
23her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it

4of our deepest sympathy.
