SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Karen E. Backes of Marengo, who passed away on August 6, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Karen Backes was born in Belvidere to Clinton and Ethel (Ham) McKee on November 23, 1947; she graduated from Marengo Community High School in 1965 and received her associate degree from McHenry County College; and

WHEREAS, Karen Backes worked at Arnold Engineering for over 40 years in various departments; and

WHEREAS, Karen Backes was a member of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local Lodge 1832, where she served as secretary and treasurer for many years; she was an active member of the Marengo United Methodist Church, where she took part in Bible study and was a volunteer for the Senior Care Network; she was also a member of the TOPS Club, Inc. in Marengo; she enjoyed sewing, quilting, and going to movies and dinner with friends; and

WHEREAS, Karen Backes was preceded in death by her husband, James Backes, and her brother, James McKee; and

WHEREAS, Karen Backes is survived by her sons, Grant and Wade Boxleitner; her granddaughter, Denver Boxleitner; her brother, Kenneth (Helena) McKee; her sister-in-law, Sandra McKee; her nephew, Patrick McKee; and her niece, Jill McKee; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Karen E. Backes, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Karen Backes as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
