SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John M. Delaney Jr. of Brighton, who passed away on August 2, 2017; and

WHEREAS, John Delaney was born in Alton to John M. "Jack" Sr. and Joan (Galloway) Delaney on August 14, 1956; he graduated from Marquette Catholic High School in 1974 and attended St. Louis University and the St. Louis University School of Law; and

WHEREAS, John Delaney practiced law for over 35 years and, since 1997, was the sole practitioner at the Law Offices of John M. Delaney, Jr.; he was also an instructor in the Criminal Justice Department at Lewis and Clark Community College for many years; and

WHEREAS, John Delaney was a loving and devoted father, companion, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend; he was known for his witty humor, his explosive ability to burst out in song at any time, and most of all for his big heart; and

WHEREAS, John Delaney was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Pete Herbig; and

WHEREAS, John Delaney is survived by his special love, Elle; his children, Maggie (Lance) Dillinger, Vicki (Mike) Sutton, and Marty (Alice) Delaney; his grandchildren, Chloe Dillinger, Kole and Callie Sutton, and his soon to be fourth grandchild; his sister, Kathy Herbig; his nephews, Andrew (Emily), Sam, and Will Herbig; his "bonus" children, Nathan, Brandon, Arynne, and Andrew; his "bonus" granddaughter, Averi; his first wife, Julie (Spurgeon) Beckham; and numerous other family and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John M. Delaney Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Delaney as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
