| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Major Frank J. "Coach" Luzenske USMC | 4 | | Reserve (Ret.) of Danville, who passed away on June 14, 2017; | 5 | | and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Major Luzenske was born in Granite City to Frank | 7 | | Theodore and Margaret Alice (Keeler) Luzenske on March 12, | 8 | | 1933; he served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve for | 9 | | 41 years; he served at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California | 10 | | and at Twentynine Palms, California, where he trained for air | 11 | | and ground combat before moving to officer training; he also | 12 | | served at the Marine Corps Air Facility at Quantico, Virginia | 13 | | and the Marine Corps Outlying Field Camp base at Camp Lejeune, | 14 | | North Carolina; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Major Luzenske attended college while serving in | 16 | | the military; he graduated from William Jewel College in | 17 | | Liberty, Missouri and earned his master's degree from Indiana | 18 | | State University; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Major Luzenske started his teaching and coaching | 20 | | career at Oakwood High School, later moving to Danville High | 21 | | School (DHS) to teach and coach; he coached wrestling, | 22 | | swimming, and football; he was active on the football field up |

| 1 | | until 2015; he also taught history, ran the WECEP program and | 2 | | was instrumental in starting the Fellowship of Christian | 3 | | Athletes; on the radio, he was part of the "Community | 4 | | Connection" morning show and the weekly "School Time" show in | 5 | | which he was able to highlight Vermilion County's youth; he was | 6 | | famous for bringing sweets to the secretaries and staff at DHS, | 7 | | his YMCA family, and his favorite, the students of the | 8 | | Alternative Program, now known as Kenneth D. Bailey Academy; | 9 | | and | 10 | | WHEREAS, Major Luzenske always supported the Marines and | 11 | | was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Major Luzenske was preceded in death by his | 13 | | parents; his sister, Margie Ramer; shortly after his passing, | 14 | | his son, Michael J. Luzenske, passed away; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Major Luzenske is survived by his daughter, Debra | 16 | | J. (Steve) Strader; his grandchildren, Jacob (Meredith) | 17 | | Strader, Justin (Abbi) Strader, Jenna (Greg) Butler, Ryan | 18 | | Luzenske, and Alie Luzenske; and his great-grandchildren, | 19 | | Mason, Carter, Braxton, Gia, Nora, Lola, Brylee, and Brewer | 20 | | Mae; therefore, be it
