SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert "Bob" Vincent Walsh of Berwyn, who
4passed away on June 14, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bob Walsh was born in Chicago to Robert and
6Marietta (Battaglia) Walsh on April 18, 1959, the oldest of
7five children and only boy; he attended Ascension Catholic
8School and graduated from St. Giles School in 1973; he
9graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep in 1977 and from
10Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in
111981 with majors in English and government; he attended the
12Loyola University Chicago School of Law from 1984 to 1987,
13where he was the President of the Loyola Computer Law Group,
14editor of the Loyola Journal of Computers and the Law, and won
15the Leadership and Service Award; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Bob Walsh was passionate about politics and
17government from a young age; he served as a staffer for various
18elected officials, including United States Representatives
19Marty Russo and Bobby Rush, U.S. Senator Carol Mosley Braun,
20and Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Bob Walsh's sense of justice led him to work for
22the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for many

1years; he acted in a number of roles, including as lead equal
2opportunity specialist and as acting-Midwest departmental
3spokesman; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Bob Walsh consistently exhibited his strengths in
5communications and negotiations when he became co-mediator and
6co-owner of a specialized family law firm that worked to help
7families going through divorce by diffusing conflict and by
8reaching positive resolutions; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Bob Walsh was most recently employed by the
10Kenneth Young Center, a provider of mental health support
11services, as a parent mentor, where he worked one-on-one with
12parents of children with emotional and behavioral
13difficulties, offering support, guidance, and intervention;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Bob Walsh had an incredible spirit of openness and
16volunteerism; he was a longtime supporter of the Hephzibah
17Children's Home, acting as a student mentor and homework
18helper; additionally, he was the first openly gay member of the
19Oak Park Elementary School District 97 Board of Education,
20serving from 2001 to 2005; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Bob Walsh was known by family and friends to be a
22wonderful and gifted writer, a great researcher of any purchase

1to be made, particularly cars, a big-hearted animal lover,
2especially for dogs, Mickey and Tilly, and lizard, Barry; he
3was a passionate gardener, a trait nurtured by his grandfather,
4Samuel Battaglia; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bob Walsh's greatest passion was his family, his
6partner of 14 years, Jim Jajkowski, his son Aidan, and his
7daughter, Hannah; whatever they needed came first and he put
8all of his heart and efforts into making a loving and caring
9home for them; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Bob Walsh is survived by his children, Aidan and
11Hannah Walsh; his partner, Jim Jajkowski; his parents, Robert
12and Marietta Walsh; his sisters, Julie (Chuck) Fabrizius, Marie
13(Kevin) White, Therese (Michael) Cormack, and Beth Walsh (Kirk
14Sweeney); Jim's siblings, Michael (Betsy) Jajkowski, Kathy
15(the late James) Pawlak, and Robert Jajkowski; and many nieces
16and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Robert "Bob" Vincent Walsh, and extend our sincere condolences
20to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
21it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

2deepest sympathy.
