SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dave Shaul of Champaign at the age of 75; and

WHEREAS, Dave Shaul attended Champaign public schools and was a winner of Illinois State High School Association speech competitions; he graduated from the University of Illinois in 1963; and

WHEREAS, Dave Shaul worked for 37 years as a television newsman at WCIA in Champaign, beginning in 1962; he was instrumental in WCIA opening bureaus in Springfield and Decatur; he began, and ended, his career with WDWS in Champaign; he oversaw the transition from film to videotape to live and satellite feeds; and

WHEREAS, Dave Shaul did play-by-play for Illinois basketball games; he promoted the Tom Jones Challenger League, sponsored by the Champaign-Urbana Kiwanis Club, and announced many of the games at AMBUCS Park in northeast Urbana; and

WHEREAS, Dave Shaul was honored with the Associated Press Mark Twain Lifetime Achievement Award; he was inducted into the Eastern Illinois University Hall of Fame and designated a lifetime member of the Illinois News Broadcasters Association; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dave Shaul, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dave Shaul as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
