SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James H. "Jim" Shaw of Moline, who passed away on May 3, 2017; and

WHEREAS, James Shaw was born in Chariton, Iowa to John and Zulma (Lanning) Shaw on December 1, 1931; he graduated from Grinnell High School in 1949 and served in Korea in the United States Army; he married Patricia Pieper in Grinnell, Iowa on July 7, 1951 and earned his degree in accounting from the University of Iowa in 1957; and

WHEREAS, James Shaw worked at Deere & Company as the manager in the Export Order Department from 1957 until his retirement in 1986; and

WHEREAS, James Shaw was involved in numerous church and social efforts which included the Catholic Family Movement, Sacred Heart Catechism teacher and lector, Special Persons Encounter Christ (SPEC) co-founder, a charter board member of the Cursillio and Bible studies, and a Catholic Social Services board member; he was the president and a 16-year board member of the National Association for Retarded Citizens (NARC) and the first president of the 708 Mental Health board; he was the Quad City Ostomy Association newsletter editor and was active in Rock Island County Republican politics; he was also a charter member of the John Deere Toastmasters and helped many of the residents of the Shaw Accessible Condominium complex with their maintenance; and

WHEREAS, James Shaw enjoyed dancing, reading, camping, traveling in his recreational vehicle, and spending time with his children and grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, James Shaw was preceded in death by his parents and his twin sister, Joan Shaw Lindenmayer; and

WHEREAS, James Shaw is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia; his children, David Shaw, Randy (Susan) Shaw, LuAnn Kellums (John Riley), Sam (Ann) Shaw, Nancy (Darrell) Bush, Jane Shaw, and Sara Shaw (Mike Pierson); his grandchildren, Nathan, Emily, Amanda, Randall, Lindy, Rachael, John, Christina, Alyssa, and Ryan; five great-grandchildren; and his brothers, John (Mary) and Vance Shaw; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James H. "Jim" Shaw, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Shaw as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
