SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Cipriano "Cip" Siete of Elgin, who passed
4away on April 21, 2017 at the age of 86; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Cipriano Siete was one of 14 children; he joined
6the United States Air Force and was stationed in New Mexico for
7four years, before returning to Elgin; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Cipriano Siete joined the Elgin Police Department
9in 1958, becoming its first Hispanic police officer; he retired
10as a sergeant in 1981 and worked as head of security for Sears
11at Spring Hill Mall until 1993 when he joined the Kane County
12Sheriff's Office to work courthouse security; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Cipriano Siete went out of his way to reach out to
14Hispanics, encouraging them to get involved in civic matters,
15and even driving them to the voting polls at election time; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Cipriano Siete made sure that if a child waved at
17him, he waved back; he always carried lollipops in his pocket
18to show that police are good people; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Cipriano Siete enjoyed golf, gardening, and
20watching Western films; he was active in Club Guadalupano of

1Elgin, which gave him its first community service award 40
2years ago; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Cipriano Siete was known for his acts of kindness,
4such as buying winter coats for the children of a Sears
5customer who was down on her luck, and ordering cakes from
6Herb's Bakery in Elgin to celebrate the birthdays of judges and
7lawyers; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Cipriano Siete is survived by his wife, Linda; his
9daughters, Rebecca (Mike) Zimmermann, Cathy Rae Siete, Alice
10(Keith) Nevel, Cip (Roz) Siete Jr., Dennis (Jeanne) Siete,
11Stephanie Siete, and Sarah (Andre) Filardo; Linda's daughter,
12Lindsay (Chris) Jensen; his sister, Rafaela Perez; his brother,
13Joseph Siete; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and
14numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Cipriano "Cip" Siete, and extend our sincere condolences to his
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Cipriano Siete as an expression of
22our deepest sympathy.
