SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Cipriano "Cip" Siete of Elgin, who passed away on April 21, 2017 at the age of 86; and

WHEREAS, Cipriano Siete was one of 14 children; he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in New Mexico for four years, before returning to Elgin; and

WHEREAS, Cipriano Siete joined the Elgin Police Department in 1958, becoming its first Hispanic police officer; he retired as a sergeant in 1981 and worked as head of security for Sears at Spring Hill Mall until 1993 when he joined the Kane County Sheriff's Office to work courthouse security; and

WHEREAS, Cipriano Siete went out of his way to reach out to Hispanics, encouraging them to get involved in civic matters, and even driving them to the voting polls at election time; and

WHEREAS, Cipriano Siete made sure that if a child waved at him, he waved back; he always carried lollipops in his pocket to show that police are good people; and

WHEREAS, Cipriano Siete enjoyed golf, gardening, and watching Western films; he was active in Club Guadalupano of Elgin, which gave him its first community service award 40 years ago; and

WHEREAS, Cipriano Siete was known for his acts of kindness, such as buying winter coats for the children of a Sears customer who was down on her luck, and ordering cakes from Herb's Bakery in Elgin to celebrate the birthdays of judges and lawyers; and

WHEREAS, Cipriano Siete is survived by his wife, Linda; his daughters, Rebecca (Mike) Zimmermann, Cathy Rae Siete, Alice (Keith) Nevel, Cip (Roz) Siete Jr., Dennis (Jeanne) Siete, Stephanie Siete, and Sarah (Andre) Filardo; Linda's daughter, Lindsay (Chris) Jensen; his sister, Rafaela Perez; his brother, Joseph Siete; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Cipriano "Cip" Siete, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Cipriano Siete as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
