SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Donald D. "Scorchy" Smith of Colona, who passed away on April 8, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Donald Smith was born in Canton to John and Lela Franks Smith on December 6, 1941; he served in the United States Army during the Korean War and he married Rhonda Downing in Rock Island on December 28, 1984; and

WHEREAS, Donald Smith worked at Farmall for 25 years before transferring to Navistar in Ohio, where he worked for 15 years until he retired in 2000; and

WHEREAS, Donald Smith loved woodworking and spending time with his children and grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Donald Smith is survived by his wife, Rhonda; his children, Dawn Smith, Jodie Cassidy, Magan (David) Jones, J.R. Smith, and Rusty Smith; and his grandchildren, Michael, Cory, Taylor, Bailey, Robert and Hannah; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Donald D. "Scorchy" Smith, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Donald Smith as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
