SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Richard Francis Streitz of Joliet who
4passed away on March 21, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Streitz was born in Joliet to Richard and
6Cecelia (Ryan) on November 25, 1921; he graduated from Joliet
7Township High School in 1940 and attended Grinnell College in
8Iowa on a football scholarship before entering the United
9States Navy; he served on the USS Repose helping with dental
10care and toured the Pacific Theatre during World War II,
11following his service in the Navy, he graduated from Loyola
12Dental School and attended the Forsyth Clinic in Boston; he
13married Jean Kavanaugh in 1953; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Richard Streitz was involved in original growth
15studies and specialized in pediatric dentistry before it was a
16specialty; he began the Pediatric Department at Loyola
17University where he treated many children in the greater Joliet
18area; he then opened his own practice where he performed
19dentistry for over 50 years; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Richard Streitz volunteered at Will Grundy
21Medical Clinic on his days off performing many extractions; he
22was also a member of the Joliet Chamber of Commerce and was one

1of the founding fathers of the Joliet Area Community Hospice
2and St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and School, where he
3remained a devoted member; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Richard Streitz spent his time away from the
5office with his family and friends enjoying different parts of
6the country including Innisbrook, Florida, the Northwoods of
7Wisconsin, and skiing in the mountains; he will long be
8remembered for his professional integrity, humor, and his
9athleticism on the tennis court, ski hill, and golf course; he
10shared the gift of his friendship with so many and was devoted
11to his family in the role as "Papa"; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Richard Streitz was preceded in death by his
13parents; and his sister, Delores; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Richard Streitz is survived by his wife, Jean; his
15children, Richard (Mary) Streitz, Nanette (Philip) Coon,
16Colleen (Martin) Buehler, and Dr. Mark (Ann) Streitz; his
17grandchildren, Weston Streitz, Chapin (Stephen) Konsler, Sarah
18(Nathan) Byram, Katherine Coon (fiancee Michael Bohling),
19Morgan (Adam) Zanotti, Martin Buehler Jr., and Callie and Ryan
20Streitz; his great-grandchildren, McKenna, Main, and Reilly
21Byram; his brother, Dr. Thomas (Susan) Streitz; many nieces and
22nephews, and his forever chair-side canine companion, Piper;
23therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3Richard Francis Streitz, and extend our sincere condolences to
4his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Richard Streitz as an expression of
8our deepest sympathy.
