SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Deborra Lynne Broughton of Springfield,
4who passed away on March 26, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Deborra Broughton was born in West Frankfort to
6Floyd and Winifred Roberts Gloyd on April 25, 1955; she
7graduated from Southeast High School in 1973 and married Donald
8Dean Broughton II; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Deborra Broughton loved her work in the Sangamon
10County Circuit Clerk's office; she especially enjoyed being the
11court clerk to Judge Leslie Graves; she then served as
12assistant to Circuit Clerk Paul Palazzolo; her previous
13employment included Horace Mann, Charles Robbins Real Estate,
14the Life Underwriters Association, Brother James Court, the
15American Cancer Society, and Children's Place; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Deborra Broughton was a member of the Springfield
17Jaycees Women's Group; when the group merged with the men's
18group, she continued her service in the Springfield Jaycees;
19she was involved in many events such as the Labor Day MDA
20telethon, the Easter Seal Telethon, Lincolnfest, Air
21Rendezvous, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, the
22Pleasant Plains School District Referendum Campaign, and

1countless other events either through employment or through her
2many years as a Springfield Jaycee; she was awarded Key Woman
3of the Year in 1982-1983 and her work with the MDA Telethon
4earned her the Community Project of the Year in 1987; she also
5volunteered with the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Deborra Broughton was active in local Republican
7politics; she helped on many campaigns as a volunteer
8coordinator; she worked as an election judge for many election
9cycles; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Deborra Broughton and her husband had a passion
11for volunteering, traveling, and socializing together; they
12traveled to Florida each year and to the Hawaiian Islands to
13celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Deborra Broughton loved Christmas; her house was
15adorned each year with a minimum of four trees, each with its
16own separate theme and hundreds of beautiful ornaments; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Deborra Broughton and her husband never missed any
18event that their kids participated in no matter where or when;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Deborra Broughton enjoyed archiving photographs
21and making scrapbooks; she was an expert in card-making; and

1    WHEREAS, Deborra Broughton was preceded in death by her
2parents and her mother-in-law, Sharon Broughton; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Deborra Broughton is survived by her husband,
4Donald; her daughters, Kristy Semanik, and Amber (Pat)
5Broughton-Howk; her sons, Eric Broughton, and Donald Dean
6Broughton III; her grandson, Billy Semanik; her cousin, Jim
7Roberts; her father-in-law, Donald Broughton; her
8brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Denise (Chris) Harney, Pam
9(Doug) Barringer, Gary (Mary) Broughton, Phil (Vickie)
10Broughton, and Jenny Broughton; and many nieces and nephews;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Deborra Lynne Broughton, and extend our sincere condolences to
15her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Deborra Broughton as an expression
19of our deepest sympathy.
