SENATE RESOLUTION

 
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Stephen Burl "Steve" Schnorf of
4Rochester, who passed away on February 27, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Stephen Schnorf was born in Charleston to Burl and
6Marjorie Baker Schnorf on November 18, 1944; he graduated from
7Charleston High School in 1962; he earned his bachelor's and
8master's degrees in education from Eastern Illinois
9University, where he met his future wife, Jane Ann Elmore; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Stephen Schnorf began his career as a high school
11history teacher in Robinson; he took pride in being invited to
12the reunions of classes he had taught 50 years prior; he served
13people with disabilities at a non-profit organization for 12
14years; he then embarked on a remarkable 22-year career with the
15State of Illinois, where he served in a variety of positions
16including as Director of Driver Services for then-Secretary of
17State Jim Edgar, as a senior adviser and cabinet member for
18Governors Edgar and Jim Ryan, and as Director of the Department
19of Central Management Services, and Director of the Bureau of
20the Budget )now the Office of Management and Budget); he served
21on State Commissions and was exceptionally well-respected and
22admired across the political spectrum for his deep knowledge of

1and commitment to Illinois government; he maintained deep
2friendships forged over the course of his life; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Stephen Schnorf was awarded the Eastern Illinois
4University Distinguished Alumnus Award; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Stephen Schnorf was a passionate contributor to
6the Capitol Fax Blog championing bipartisan cooperation; he was
7an avid motorcycle rider and lover of old country and bluegrass
8music; he was most proud of his family and delighted in his
9grandchildren; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Stephen Schnorf is survived by his brothers, David
11(Cindy), Marty, and Jim (Karen) Schnorf; his children,
12Elizabeth Elmore, Rebecca Schnorf, and Quin Elmore; and his
13grandchildren, Jaelyn, Jensen, and Zion; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Stephen Burl "Steve" Schnorf, and extend our sincere
17condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
18him; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Stephen Schnorf as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
