SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Valeria M. (Buss) Scarbrough of McHenry, who passed away on December 23, 2016 at the age of 76; and

WHEREAS, Valeria Scarbrough was born in Chicago to Leon F. and Florence B. (Baranski) Buss on January 29, 1940; she married George Scarbrough in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 7, 1999; and

WHEREAS, Valeria Scarbrough lived in Wonder Lake from 1952 until moving to the McCullom Lake area of McHenry in 1964; she worked as a secretary for the McHenry County Sheriff's department for 13 years, retiring in December of 1989; for eight years, she was also a waitress at the former Whale's Tail restaurant in McHenry; and

WHEREAS, Valeria Scarbrough was a member of The Church of Holy Apostles in McHenry; she was a former member of St. Patrick's Church in McHenry; for a number of years in the 1970s, she was also a member of the McCullom Lake Beach Gals; she enjoyed reading, scrapbooking, gardening, and traveling; and

WHEREAS, Valeria Scarbrough was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Leon and Jim Mulholland; and her brother-in-law, Al Krepel; and

WHEREAS, Valeria Scarbrough is survived by her husband, George Scarbrough; her six children, Laura (Fred) O'Halleran, Ramona Bitterman, Kathleen (Michael) McDow, Daniel Bitterman, Deborah (John) Rothlisberger, and Angela (Shaun) Kirkwood; her grandchildren, Autumn and Alec O'Halleran, Christopher Bitterman, Justes, Bradlee, and Rachael McDow, Hailey Bitterman, Nicholas Larsen, Rebecca Rothlisberger, and Alexis Lowitzki; her five great-grandchildren; her stepchildren, Sherry (Earl) Hucker, and Steven Scarbrough; her step-grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, and Nicholas; her sisters, Kathleen Krepel, Tootsie Buss, Carol (Bob Beyer), Rosemary Schaefer, and Hattie (Dennis) Kozicki; her brothers, Robert (Dodi) Buss, Bernard (Jan) Buss, Charles (Wilma) Buss, Gerard (Nancy) Buss, David Buss, Dominic Buss, and Peter (Carol) Buss; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Valeria Scarbrough, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Valeria Scarbrough as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
