SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Thomas Ellsworth Wood of Lake Forest,
4formerly of Bannockburn, who passed away on February 10, 2017;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Thomas Wood was born in Springfield, Ohio to the
7Reverend Walter Scott Wood and Faith Rosensteel Wood on August
828, 1926; the family moved to Oak Park, and later to Chicago;
9he enlisted in the United States Navy when he was 18 years old
10and served on a minesweeper in the Pacific theatre; he attended
11Denison University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts and was
12a member of Sigma Chi fraternity; in 1952, he met Patricia
13Carter, to whom he proposed on their third date; they were
14married in 1953; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Thomas Wood joined Hewitt Associates (now AON)
16after a brief stint at Hotpoint Co.; he spent the next 30 years
17at Hewitt, and eventually became a partner and served on the
18Executive Committee for 16 years, opening U.S. and
19International offices; he is recognized as a pioneer in the
20creation of flexible compensation; after a distinguished
21career at Hewitt Associates, he went on to sit on numerous
22boards, as well as to teach at the Kellogg School of
23Management; and

1    WHEREAS, Thomas Wood was a member of the board of Highland
2Park Hospital for 14 years, a Vestryman at St. Gregory's
3Episcopal Church in Deerfield, and Chairman of the Planning
4Commission in Bannockburn; he enjoyed the family cabin in the
5Northwoods of Wisconsin, wintering in La Quinta, California,
6and antique cars; his true passion was sailing on Lake
7Michigan; he was a member of Exmoor Country Club for 53 years;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Thomas Wood was preceded in death by his sister,
10Constance Jane Tipps; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Thomas Wood is survived by his wife, Patricia
12Carter Wood; his son, Thomas Scott Wood (Maria); his daughter,
13Leslie Anne Bragg (Barry); and his grandchildren, Meredith and
14Stephanie Bragg, and Thomas, Amanda, Tyler, and Travis Wood;
15his brother-in-law, C. Leslie Carter; and many nieces and
16nephews; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Thomas Ellsworth Wood, and extend our sincere condolences to
20his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
21further

3deepest sympathy.
