SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Nancy Ann Neumiller of Peoria, who passed
4away on March 14, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Nancy Neumiller was born in Smith Center, Kansas
6to James Roger and Irene Louise (Johnson) Coolidge on April 24,
71931; she grew up during the Dustbowl and the Great Depression
8in Kansas and later moved to Estes Park, Colorado; she learned
9the family business and managed the front-end of Coolidge's
10Restaurant in Estes Park for 13 summers; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Nancy Neumiller graduated from Westport High
12School in Kansas City, Missouri and attended the University of
13Kansas, the University of Colorado, and the University of
14Chicago; she graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Education
15from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1960; she
16came to Peoria to be an art teacher at Richwoods Community High
17School; she later went on to teach at Saint Paul's Episcopal
18School in Peoria; she married Charles "Dick" Neumiller at First
19Federated Church in Peoria on June 6, 1961; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Nancy Neumiller was a dedicated volunteer and
21supporter of her adopted hometown; she served as a board member
22on the Museum Society Board and the Glen Oak Museum, where she

1created new displays of historic artifacts at the then-new
2museum at Lakeview Center for the Arts and Science in Peoria;
3she served on the board and was a member of the Fine Arts
4Society from 1966 to 1970 and 1991 to 2005; she had been with
5the Central Illinois Landmark Foundation since 1975, where she
6continued restoration of the Grand Army of the Republic Hall;
7she was an officer and member of the Peoria Chapter of the
8Daughters of the American Revolution, the Colonial Danes XVII
9Century, the Peoria Area Alumnae Panhellenic, where she was the
10President for the Chi Omega Alumnae, the Peoria Stitchers
11Guild, and the New England Historical Society in Boston,
12Massachusetts; she was involved in the John C. Flanagan House
13Steering Committee at Peoria High School since 1985; she was a
14guide for the John C. Flanagan House for 15 years and was the
15founder and a Chairman for their major fall event,
16"Kettledrum", from 1985 to 1993; she served on the board of the
17Peoria Historical Society from 1974 to 1978 and was a guide for
18their bus tours for 15 years; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In 1989, Nancy Neumiller was involved in the
20organizing committee for the 1691 Foundation Area
21Tricentennial; from 1990 to 1991, she developed the characters
22for the tricentennial for the History and Research Committee;
23she conceived, organized, and developed the Peoria Area
24Tricentennial Wall Hanging; from 1991 to 1992, she designed and
25constructed the Tricentennial Wall Hanging with 31 Stitchers

1Guild Members, which was unveiled on September 11, 1992; in
21993, she organized a new committee for the moving and the
3displaying of the Tricentennial Wall Hanging; she was appointed
4by Mayor Maloof to the Peoria Historic Preservation Commission
5for eight years; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Nancy Neumiller was preceded in death by her
7parents; her husband, Dick; and her oldest sister, Dede; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Nancy Neumiller is survived by her children, Jane
9(Marcus) Neumiller-Bustad, Roger (Valentina) Neumiller, and
10Kate (Bill) Schureman, and her grandchildren, Sara, Kristina,
11Melody, Victoria, James, and Amelia; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Nancy Ann Neumiller, and extend our sincere condolences to her
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Nancy Neumiller as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
