SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert L. Vojas, who passed away on March 19, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Robert Vojas was born October 5, 1933 in Staunton to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Vojas on October 5, 1933; he graduated from St. Michael's Middle School, he graduated from Staunton High School, and he served in the United States Navy; he married Mary Seketa on August 24, 1957; and

WHEREAS, Robert Vojas worked at the McDonnell Douglas Corporation from 1954 to 1995, where he was the Director of Quality Assurance; he worked on the P-40 Tomahawk, the F-4 Phantom II, the PV-2 Harpoon, cruise missiles, and the Skylab space station; in 1988 and 1989, he received the Navy's Salty Dog Award; he also received the McDonnell Douglas President's Award in 1989 in recognition of his work as the product assurance manager on the Harpoon program; he began his second career working at Scott's Service Center; and

WHEREAS, Robert Vojas was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church of Staunton; he was a member of the Staunton American Legion Post #362 and the Staunton Lion's Club, where he previously served as President; he was a former member of the Staunton City Council where he served as the Ward One Alderman; he was a proud Democrat; he was first elected to the Macoupin County Board in 2002, and he was most recently Chairman of the Road and Bridges Committee; and

WHEREAS, Robert Vojas is survived by his wife and best friend, Mary; his children, Steve (Tracie) Vojas, Mike Vojas, Roberta Vojas, and Renee (Matt) Galbraith; his granddaughters, Michelle Jones, Tiffany Vojas (Matt) Cramer, Christy (Rob) Coleman, Stephanie Vojas (Ryan Taylor), and Kimberley (Brian) Roller; and his great-grandsons, Dylan, Jackson, Coby, and Braden; and

WHEREAS, Robert Vojas was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Ann; and his niece, Lana Odorizzi; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Robert L. Vojas, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert Vojas as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
