SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ronald Haznedl, who passed away on February 16, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Haznedl was born in Berwyn to Frank and Mildred (Straka) Haznedl on October 1, 1935; he graduated from J. Sterling Morton High School in Cicero; he obtained his bachelor's degree from Wheaton College, attended New York Theological Seminary, and received his Master of Divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago; later, he earned a master's degree in anthropology at Northern Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Haznedl taught philosophy, anthropology, and related disciplines at McHenry County College (MCC), where he created a new course, Archaeology of the Ancient Middle East, and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and experiences with his students; he continued to share his experiences with a variety of groups young and old during and after his tenure at MCC, helping people understand the rich culture of the Middle East on a personal level; and

WHEREAS, In 1959, Ronald Haznedl participated in an archaeological excavation in Palestine, where he discovered the largest tomb in terms of number of objects; through the years, he participated in a number of archaeological and cultural experiences in the Middle East; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Haznedl served as pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church of Aurora for over a decade; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Haznedl was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Haznedl is survived by his wife of 40 years, Alice; his brother, Allen; his sister, Lois (Arthur) Siml; his sons, Stephen (Margaret) and Craig (Velma Carol) Farr; and his grandchildren, Abigail and Ethan Farr; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ronald Haznedl, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ronald Haznedl as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
