SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James J. "Jim" Albritton of Joliet, who passed away on September 14, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Jim Albritton was born in Peoria to Dorothy (McGrath) and Fay Albritton on July 30, 1951; he was raised in Joliet and attended St. Patrick Grade School and Joliet Catholic High; his family moved to Brussels for several years, and he graduated from the International High School of Brussels; he earned a bachelor's degree from the College of St Francis and graduated Summa Cum Laude; he was a veteran of the United States Army and served during Vietnam; and

WHEREAS, Jim Albritton had a memorable career as a law enforcement officer for the City of Joliet; he served as a patrol officer from 1983 until 1994; he was a Lieutenant Administrator from 1994 until 1998 and was promoted to Captain in 1998, a position he held until his retirement in 2008; and

WHEREAS, Jim Albritton was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #300, the BPOE Joliet Lodge #296, the Exchange Club, the American Legion Post #1080, the Knights of Columbus Council 12014, the Irish American Society of County Will, the Merit Commission, and the Joliet Chamber of Commerce; he served on the board of the Will County Center for Independent Living and the Salvation Army, where he was a former president; he founded "Shop with a Cop" to ensure all area kids had a bright holiday season; he was elected to the Joliet Park District Board and served as Commissioner; he enjoyed participating in special events for the Prairie Trail Credit Union and serving spaghetti annually for the Fraternal Order of Police; he will be remembered for his friendly disposition, keen sense of humor, and for always finding the time to help; and

WHEREAS, Jim Albritton was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Anne Birong, Susan Worley, and Mary Jo Smith; and

WHEREAS, Jim Albritton is survived by his children, Kendra Albritton and Devyn (Cory) Wingerter; his grandchildren, Kendra Overstreet, Aidan Overstreet, Chase Wingerter, and Madison Wingerter; his siblings, Lora Albritton and Robert Smith; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James J. "Jim" Albritton and extend our sincere sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jim Albritton as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
