SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James J. "Jim" Albritton of Joliet, who
4passed away on September 14, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Albritton was born in Peoria to Dorothy
6(McGrath) and Fay Albritton on July 30, 1951; he was raised in
7Joliet and attended St. Patrick Grade School and Joliet
8Catholic High; his family moved to Brussels for several years,
9and he graduated from the International High School of
10Brussels; he earned a bachelor's degree from the College of St
11Francis and graduated Summa Cum Laude; he was a veteran of the
12United States Army and served during Vietnam; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Jim Albritton had a memorable career as a law
14enforcement officer for the City of Joliet; he served as a
15patrol officer from 1983 until 1994; he was a Lieutenant
16Administrator from 1994 until 1998 and was promoted to Captain
17in 1998, a position he held until his retirement in 2008; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jim Albritton was a member of the Loyal Order of
19Moose Lodge #300, the BPOE Joliet Lodge #296, the Exchange
20Club, the American Legion Post #1080, the Knights of Columbus
21Council 12014, the Irish American Society of County Will, the
22Merit Commission, and the Joliet Chamber of Commerce; he served

1on the board of the Will County Center for Independent Living
2and the Salvation Army, where he was a former president; he
3founded "Shop with a Cop" to ensure all area kids had a bright
4holiday season; he was elected to the Joliet Park District
5Board and served as Commissioner; he enjoyed participating in
6special events for the Prairie Trail Credit Union and serving
7spaghetti annually for the Fraternal Order of Police; he will
8be remembered for his friendly disposition, keen sense of
9humor, and for always finding the time to help; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jim Albritton was preceded in death by his parents
11and his sisters, Anne Birong, Susan Worley, and Mary Jo Smith;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Jim Albritton is survived by his children, Kendra
14Albritton and Devyn (Cory) Wingerter; his grandchildren,
15Kendra Overstreet, Aidan Overstreet, Chase Wingerter, and
16Madison Wingerter; his siblings, Lora Albritton and Robert
17Smith; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20James J. "Jim" Albritton and extend our sincere sympathy to his
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
22further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Jim Albritton as an expression of
3our deepest sympathy.
