SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Harold E. Rich of Glen Carbon, who passed
4away on February 15, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harold Rich was born in Carbondale to Edgar and
6Mona Mearle (Johnson) Rich on May 16, 1922; he served as a
7Sergeant with the United States Army Engineers from 1943 to
81945; he married Marilyn Nadine Calvin on September 13, 1945;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Harold Rich worked for the Illinois Central
11Railroad as a brakeman from 1942 to 1946; he worked as an
12operating engineer at Shell Oil Company from 1947 to 1962; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Harold Rich received his master's degree from
14Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, specializing in
15education and media and embarked on a new career; he was a
16teacher in the audio visual department at Roxana Junior/Senior
17High School from 1964 to 1975; from 1975 to 1976, he was a
18media specialist at Lewis and Clark Community College; from
191977 to 1999, he was a self-employed home builder; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Harold Rich was an active member of St. John's
21United Methodist Church in Edwardsville, where he served on the

1Board of Trustees and assisted in mission projects; he served
2on committees for the Operating Engineers Union and the
3Illinois Retired Teachers Association; he was a life member of
4the National and Illinois Education Associations and was a
5Southern Illinois University Alumni; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Harold Rich was preceded in death by his parents;
7his wife, Marilyn; and his brother, Glenn; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Harold Rich is survived by his son, Mark Rich (Pam
9Neuenschwander); his daughter, Leanne (Pat) Jones; his
10grandchildren, Craig and Michelle Rich; his
11great-grandchildren, Calvin and Amelia; his sister-in-law,
12Dolores Rich; his nieces, Linda Swinford, Diana Cain, and
13Sherri McAnerny; and his nephews, Steve, Tim, and Terry;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Harold E. Rich, and extend our sincere condolences to his
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Harold Rich as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
