SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Glen Dean Pittman M.D. of Springfield,
4who passed away on October 26, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Pittman was born in Casper, Wyoming to Fordyce
6and Charlotte Armbruster Pittman on December 29, 1937; he spent
7his college years at Northwestern University and graduated from
8Washington University School of Medicine in 1963; he completed
9his residency at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis and then proudly
10served in the United States Air Force at Maxwell Air Force Base
11in Montgomery, Alabama; he married Jeanne DeCosted at Central
12Presbyterian Church in Clayton, Missouri on December 7, 1963;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Pittman dedicated his career to Psychiatry; he
15moved to Springfield in 1969 and worked in private practice for
1640 years; he served as Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry
17at Memorial Medical Center from 1975 until 1992; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. Pittman was a member of many professional
19organizations and societies, including the Sangamon County
20Medical Society, where he served on the board of directors and
21was president; he was a member of the Illinois State Medical
22Society Ethics Committee for seven years; he also consulted

1with many Illinois mental health centers throughout his career,
2and most recently he served as a medical consultant for the
3Bureau of Disability Determination Services; he was passionate
4about mental health and received the Distinguished Life Fellow
5from the American Psychiatric Association in 2003; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Pittman was a member of Westminster
7Presbyterian Church for 48 years; he enjoyed singing in the
8choir, serving as an ordained elder and on committees, and
9tending the church gardens; he enjoyed gardening, traveling
10with friends and family, watching movies, and history,
11especially the life of Thomas Jefferson; his greatest joys were
12his family, church, work, and being at home; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Pittman is survived by his wife, Jeanne; his
14daughters, Susan (Jeff) Travis and Julie (Jim) McDonough; his
15son, David (Anna) Pittman, M.D.; his grandchildren, Elizabeth
16and Julia Travis and Charles, William, and Alex Pittman; his
17sisters-in-law, Suzanne (James) Breckenridge and Nancy (Fred)
18Niehaus; his nieces and nephews; and his many treasured
19friends; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Glen Dean Pittman M.D. and extend our sincere condolences to
23his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it

4deepest sympathy.
