SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gary T. Del Re of Mundelein, who passed away on October 28, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Gary Del Re was born in Chicago, the second of three sons, to Ken and Dolores (Deutsch) Del Re on August 26, 1949; and

WHEREAS, Gary Del Re was a career first responder and rose from patrolman to the rank of Commander with the Village of Buffalo Grove Police Department; he was later appointed and elected Sheriff of Lake County in 1998 and again in 2002; he was an innovative law enforcement officer and served as the founding Commander of the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, which was created in 1992 and continues to solve high-profile crimes; during this time, he also earned his bachelor's degree and master's degree and taught at the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety; he served the residents of northern Cook and Lake Counties for over 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Gary Del Re was known for his humor and his encyclopedic knowledge of the Civil War, American presidents, the political process, and Abraham Lincoln; he was a voracious reader and would retell history with an intimate detail that kept even his youngest grandchild captivated; most of all, he was humble, kind, and gracious; and

WHEREAS, Gary Del Re was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth and his wife Sandra; and

WHEREAS, Gary Del Re is survived by his mother, Dolores; his brothers, Ken (Jessica) and Phillip (Susan); his sons, Gary Jr. and David (Jordan); his grandchildren, Hunter, Tyler, Colsen, and Sheridan; his loving family, Hank Dybal and Wray (Dawn) Dybal and children, Amanda and Zachary; his nieces and nephews, Angel, Amy, David, Jonathan, Sarah, and Joseph; his best friend, Amy; and his dachshund, Brutus; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gary T. Del Re and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gary Del Re as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
