SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John P. Coffey of Raleigh, North
4Carolina, formerly of Peoria, who passed away on August 24,
52018; and
 
6    WHEREAS, John Coffey was born in Peoria to Alice Quinn and
7William J. Coffey on June 9, 1941; he graduated from Peoria
8Spalding High School and Lewis University; he earned his Master
9of Business Administration at Eastern Illinois University; he
10served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the
11Vietnam War; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Coffey retired as an Executive Vice President
13and a member of the chairman's council from State Farm
14Insurance Company after 33 years of service; and
 
15    WHEREAS, John Coffey served on the Board of Directors for a
16variety of organizations, including the McLean County Center
17for Human Services, Chestnut Health Systems, and the Illinois
18Chamber of Commerce as well as the Holy Trinity Parish school
19board in Bloomington; he was the food donation coordinator for
20St. Peter's Parish in Jupiter, Florida and the director of the
21Vietnam Veterans Chapter 530 in Durham, North Carolina; he was
22awarded the Distinguished Alumnae Award from the Eastern

1Illinois University College of Business and served as a leader
2on their Master's Degree in Business Dean's Advisory Board; and
 
3    WHEREAS, John Coffey was a devoted parishioner of Raleigh's
4St. Francis of Assisi Church and volunteered his time as a
5consultant; he was an ardent college football fan, especially
6of the University of Notre Dame; he loved a good game of golf
7with his friends and fishing trips; he was an avid reader,
8loved traveling with his family, and had a talent for great
9story telling; he was a mentor, loyal friend, and confident who
10touched many lives with his advice, generosity, and insight;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Coffey was preceded in death by his parents;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, John Coffey is survived by his wife of 52 years,
15Mary Jo; his daughter, Michelle (Tom) Paul; his son, Mark
16(Jenny) Coffey; his grandchildren, Peyton and Carter Paul and
17Quinn Coffey; his brothers, William J. Coffey and Michael P.
18Coffey; and his beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews;
19therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22John P. Coffey and extend our sincere condolences to his

1family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
2further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of John Coffey as an expression of our
5deepest sympathy.
