SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Pastor Henry L. Woods Sr., who passed
4away on May 28, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Pastor Woods was born in Birmingham, Alabama to
6Monroe and O'neal Woods on December 8, 1953; he was the sixth
7of eight children and was educated in the Jefferson County and
8Marengo County School Systems; he committed to his faith at Mt.
9Calvary Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, where he served
10in the youth choir; his family later relocated to Demopolis,
11Alabama, where he joined the True Vine Baptist Church and
12continued to serve faithfully; in 1972, he relocated to
13Waukegan, Illinois; in 1985, he joined the Christian Valley
14Missionary Baptist Church in North Chicago, where he was an
15ordained Deacon and served as a Vice Chairman; he was licensed
16and ordained as a Minister of the Gospel by Pastor Clarence
17Clarke in 1994; and
 
18    WHEREAS, During his years in the ministry, Pastor Woods
19served as the Director of Youth Ministry and as the Assistant
20Pastor; he was installed as the Pastor of the church on October
2120, 2002; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Pastor Woods was educated at the College of Lake

1County, McKinley Theological Seminary, Carver Baptist Bible
2College, the National Baptist Convention USA Inc., The Biblical
3Exposition Conference, and various workshops and seminars; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Pastor Woods was preceded in death by his
5grandmother, Agnos "Mrs. Nan" Killings; his parents; his
6brother, Joe Lee Woods; and his granddaughter, MyeAngel Booker;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Pastor Woods is survived by his daughter, Lisha
9Woods; his sons, Henry L. and Darrell (Tiffany) Woods; his
10sisters, Mary Gh'Rael, Dorothy (Freddie) Armstead, Pinkie
11(Lady) Marrow; and Marie Woods; his brothers, Therman (Helen
12Tyler) and James Woods; his grandchildren, Kiara Booker, Layka
13McQuitery, Jason Booker Jr., Amaya Booker, Kemari Woods, and
14Zoe Woods; and his many cousins, nieces, and nephews;
15therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Pastor Henry L. Woods Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to
19his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Pastor Woods as an expression of our
