SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jane Miner Harvey of Lake Forest, who
4passed away on January 5, 2017 at the age of 94; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jane Harvey was born in Washington, D.C. in 1922;
6she remembered ice skating in Rock Creek Park as a child, and
7attending events at the White House where the president
8personally greeted and strolled among the guests; she moved to
9Kansas City, Missouri in 1939 when her father, who worked for
10the IRS, was sent to assist in the effort to shut down the
11Pendergast organization; she was a 1943 graduate of the
12University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Arts in English; while
13attending a University lecture, she sat down on a chair that
14collapsed and the young man that leapt up to assist her was her
15roommate's brother, John Harvey; they married in Kansas City
16after his return from service in the United States Marine Corps
17during World War II in 1947; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jane Harvey remained in Kansas City after
19graduating from the University of Kansas; she worked as the
20editor of the employee newsletter at Hallmark Cards; she once,
21while stylishly dressed, stepped into an elevator with J.C.
22Hall and Norman Rockwell, and Rockwell remarked that it was
23"just like being in New York City with the models."; she and

1her husband relocated to the Chicago area when her husband
2joined the Leo Burnett Advertising Agency; she was a resident
3of Lake Forest since 1962; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Jane Harvey loved to entertain family and friends
5at her home; she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church
6of Lake Forest; she took pleasure in researching the genealogy
7of her family and was a member of the Thomas Minor Society; she
8worked as an editor in many paid and volunteer positions
9including the Lake Forest Girl Scouts and PTA; her family grew
10up reading a re-edited version of the Chicago Tribune as it was
11her habit to read the paper with a red pen and mark
12typographical and grammatical errors that she found; after
13leaving the advertising business, her husband started the mail
14order business, Golf Day Products, and she put her
15organizational and editorial talents to work as the Vice
16President of the company, helping to grow the business from a
17four-page black and white flyer to a 48-page full color
18catalog; they sold the business upon their retirement; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Jane Harvey enjoyed spending time with her family
20and encouraged all to do well in life and once said, "if there
21is something you always wanted to do, you should do it now";
22she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and
23sister; and

1    WHEREAS, Jane Harvey was preceded in death by her husband,
2John Cole Harvey; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Jane Harvey is survived by her three children,
4Scott Miner Harvey, Gayle Harvey, and Joan Windsor Harvey; her
5grandchildren, Braden Harvey, Shannon Harvey, Christina Edson,
6and her step-granddaughter, Danielle Edson Pierce; therefore,
7be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Jane Miner Harvey, and extend our sincere condolences to her
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Jane Harvey as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
