SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donald J. Newberg of Bloomington, who
4passed away on February 7, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Newberg was born in Galesburg to Ralph H.
6and Relda B. Newberg on June 19, 1932; he married Carolyn J.
7Wooldridge in 1951; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Donald Newberg began his broadcasting career at
9age 21 in Macomb; in 1957, he moved to Bloomington
10Broadcasting; while at WJBC, he was an on-air personality,
11concentrating on news and sports and for many years, hosting a
12program called, "Problems and Solutions"; in 1974, he moved to
13Evansville, Indiana to manage the first of what became many
14radio station acquisitions outside Bloomington; in 1978, he
15moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee to manage another acquisition;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Donald Newberg was very active in every community
18in which he lived; he was elected a member of the District 87
19Board of Education; he served on the board of the Illinois
20Prairie Community Foundation, and with the Rotary Club,
21Illinois Wesleyan University Associates, and many other causes
22and organizations; he was President of the Illinois News

1Broadcasters Association, served on the board of the National
2Association of Broadcasters, and was President of the Tennessee
3Association of Broadcasters; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Donald Newberg inherited a lifelong love of golf
5from his mother; he was the media Chairman of the PGA Provident
6Classic in Chattanooga for many years and had three
7holes-in-one; and
 
8    WHEREAS, 49 years ago, Donald Newberg took his then-young
9family for the first time to the white sand beaches of the Gulf
10of Mexico near Pensacola, Florida; this trip became a yearly
11family vacation; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Donald Newberg is survived by his wife, Carolyn;
13his children, Deb (Steve) Wannemacher, David (Joni) Newberg,
14and Mary Jo (Bruce) Campbell; his grandchildren, Suzy (Chris)
15Brown, Andrew (Jill) Newberg, Allison (Matt) Hannam, Sarah
16Wannemacher, and Alexa Campbell; and his great-grandchildren,
17Joe Amiano, Jack Amiano, Morgan Brown, Luke Brown, Brady Brown,
18Kate Hannam, Lauren Hannam, Logan Newberg, Evan Newberg, and
19Hunter Steele-Wannemacher; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Donald J. Newberg, and extend our sincere condolences to his

1family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
2further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Donald Newberg as an expression of
5our deepest sympathy.
