SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Peter D. Flament, who passed away on
4February 13, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Peter Flament was born at home in Waukegan to
6Peter and Helen Flament on January 2, 1927; in school, he
7participated in gym class boxing matches and set pins at the
8neighborhood bowling alley after school; he graduated with the
9Class of 1944; after graduation, he enlisted in the United
10States Navy and completed boot camp at the Great Lakes Naval
11Base; after training to be an engine mechanic/boiler maker, he
12joined the USS Montpelier and immediately went to war; in the
13days after the Pacific conflict ended, the USS Montepelier made
14port in Japan and aided in the rescue of Allied Prisoners of
15War; he was one of the first American troops to witness the
16devastation of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima; he married Dorothy
17on August 27, 1949; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, Peter
19Flament was accepted into the Local 93 Plumbers Union and
20became a skilled tradesman; he honed his skills by constructing
21two homes, building solid oak furniture, and completing
22numerous repairs for family, neighbors, and friends; and

1    WHEREAS, Peter Flament gave much of his time to his church
2and was a proud volunteer at Vista East Hospital for many
3years; he was generous with his knowledge and, through his own
4examples, passed down the value of "self reliance"; he will be
5greatly missed; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Peter Flament was preceded in death by his
7parents; his sister, Jean Anderson; and his son, Howard; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Peter Flament is survived by his wife, Dorothy;
9his daughters, Ruthann (Keith) Hoffman and Mary Jane (Peter)
10Garcia; his sons, Richard (JoAnn) and Michael; his
11grandchildren, Patrick (Mara) and Elizabeth Garcia and Brad
12(Rachel), Brian (Janel), and Alex Flament; his
13great-grandchildren, Brody and Presley Flament and Jonas and
14Julian Garcia; his sister, Mary Ann (George) Shwaiko; and his
15many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Peter D. Flament and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Peter Flament as an expression of
