SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Rita Camacho of Elgin, who passed away on
4December 11, 2016 at the age of 98; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rita Camacho was born in Mexico on December 15,
61917 to Rosalio and Pascuala (Avina) Pompa; she was a member of
7one of the first six Mexican families to arrive in Elgin; after
8first going to Denver, Colorado in 1924, she came to Elgin in
9December of 1926, accompanied by her widowed mother, two
10brothers, Jesus and Rosendo, and a sister, Jessie; she married
11Joaquin "Jack" Camacho; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Rita Camacho and her family owned the first
13Mexican restaurant and first Mexican grocery store in Elgin;
14she was active in her community, volunteering at many places
15including Presence Saint Joseph Hospital and the Community
16Crisis Center; she would always lend a helping hand to anyone
17who needed it; she was recognized for her contributions to the
18Hispanic community of Elgin by Club Guadalupano, a civic group
19associated with St. Joseph parish; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Rita Camacho was preceded in death by her parents;
21her husband, Joaquin "Jack" Camacho; her brothers, Fortunato,
22Jesus, and Rosendo Pompa; and her sisters, Anastacia Flores and

1Jessie Patino Vasquez; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Rita Camacho is survived by her daughters, Mary
3Camacho and Dolores (Salvador) Camacho; her two sons, Rev.
4Robert Camacho and Michael (Cynthia) Camacho; her
5grandchildren, Salvador (Georgianna) Camacho, Mark A. (Pamela)
6Camacho, Maria T. (Andrew) Harrison, Christina (Jennifer)
7Robbins, Vincent (Theresa) Camacho, and Victoria Marshall; her
8great-grandchildren, Michael, Rachael, Alicia, Steven, Lauren,
9David Jack, Jared, Adam, Maliyah, Evette, and Lila; therefore,
10be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
13family and friends, mourn the passing of Rita Camacho, and
14extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all
15who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Rita Camacho as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
