SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Rachel E. Shepherdson of Peoria, who
4passed away on January 25, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rachel Shepherdson was born in Augusta to Ernest
6Paul and Maza Marie (Dennis) West on January 20, 1925; she
7earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from
8Illinois State University; she married C. Edwin Shepherdson in
9Normal on August 24, 1946; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Rachel Shepherdson started her teaching career in
111946 at Lanark High School; she was a teacher at Dunlap High
12School from 1947 to 1957; in 1958, she joined the first staff
13of the new Richwoods Community High School and held business
14education, counseling, and administrative posts until 1969;
15from 1969 until her retirement in 1986, she was the Assistant
16Principal; following her retirement, she taught computer
17education at ICC and at SeniorNet; she was also a freelance
18editor for the Peoria Journal Star; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Rachel Shepherdson was an active member of her
20church; she created computer-generated greeting cards with
21original poetry and enjoyed playing bridge; and

1    WHEREAS, Rachel Shepherdson was preceded in death by her
2husband, Edwin; her parents; and her sisters, Lois Silzer, and
3Carol Blake; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Rachel Shepherdson is survived by her daughter,
5Nancy Shepherdson (Larry Garascia); seven nieces and nephews;
6and several grandnieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Rachel E. Shepherdson, and extend our sincere condolences to
10her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Rachel Shepherdson as an expression
14of our deepest sympathy.
