SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Rachel E. Shepherdson of Peoria, who passed away on January 25, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Rachel Shepherdson was born in Augusta to Ernest Paul and Maza Marie (Dennis) West on January 20, 1925; she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Illinois State University; she married C. Edwin Shepherdson in Normal on August 24, 1946; and

WHEREAS, Rachel Shepherdson started her teaching career in 1946 at Lanark High School; she was a teacher at Dunlap High School from 1947 to 1957; in 1958, she joined the first staff of the new Richwoods Community High School and held business education, counseling, and administrative posts until 1969; from 1969 until her retirement in 1986, she was the Assistant Principal; following her retirement, she taught computer education at ICC and at SeniorNet; she was also a freelance editor for the Peoria Journal Star; and

WHEREAS, Rachel Shepherdson was an active member of her church; she created computer-generated greeting cards with original poetry and enjoyed playing bridge; and

WHEREAS, Rachel Shepherdson was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; her parents; and her sisters, Lois Silzer, and Carol Blake; and

WHEREAS, Rachel Shepherdson is survived by her daughter, Nancy Shepherdson (Larry Garascia); seven nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Rachel E. Shepherdson, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rachel Shepherdson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
