SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bolingbrook Deputy Mayor Leroy Brown Sr.,
4who passed away on October 31, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Deputy Mayor Brown severed in Vietnam with the
6Green Berets; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Deputy Mayor Brown moved to Bolingbrook in 1976;
8he was married to Pat for 51 years and has two sons, Leroy Jr.
9and Jeffrey, and five grandchildren; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Deputy Mayor Brown was a committed community
11volunteer for more than 40 years; from 1976 to 2017, he served
12as president of the Indian Oaks Condo Association; from 1990
13through 1993, he served as a fire and police board
14commissioner; from 1993 to 2000, he served on the village board
15of trustees; from 2000 until 2017, he also served as deputy
16mayor; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Deputy Mayor Brown founded the Bolingbrook
18Joyfest and Bridging the Gap, which aired on Bolingbrook
19Community Television from 1996 through 2017; he attended many
20annual events sponsored by VFW Post 5917, American Legion Post
211288, the Knights of Columbus, the Black History Awareness

1Club, Heart Haven Outreach, the Community Service Council, and
2the HEART Organization; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Deputy Mayor Brown collected a long list of local
4honors, including the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce's
5Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009; in 2016, he was named grand
6marshal of the Pathways Parade; in 2017, he was named a Paul
7Harris Fellow by the Bolingbrook Rotary Club and was praised by
8Citizens Against Abuse for committing 19 years to defending
9their cause; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Bolingbrook Deputy Mayor Leroy Brown Sr., and extend our
13sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
14and loved him; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Deputy Mayor Brown as an expression
17of our deepest sympathy.
