SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Anne E. DeDobbelaere of Elgin, who passed away on October 24, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Anne DeDobbelaere was born in Elgin to Bob and Maureen (Sullivan) DeDobbelaere on March 17, 1960; she graduated from the Bartlett Learning Center in 1981; and

WHEREAS, Anne DeDobbelaere worked as a bagger at Jewel-Osco, where she never missed a day of work in 28 years; and

WHEREAS, Anne DeDobbelaere was a decorated Special Olympics athlete; she started track and field at age nine and competed in the 1979 Special Olympics World Summer Games when she was 18; she won a gold medal, two silver medals, and a bronze medal in cross-country skiing at the 2001 World Winter Games in Alaska; she amassed hundreds of medals for competing in basketball, volleyball, aquatics, rhythmic gymnastics, softball, and cross-country skiing at national and international events; and

WHEREAS, Anne DeDobbelaere was the Grand Marshall of the Elgin 4th of July parade in 2001; she was the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame; she attended Sunday services with her parents at St. Thomas More Catholic Church; and

WHEREAS, Anne DeDobbelaere enjoyed sports and loved to be on the team; she will be remembered for her fierce competitiveness, work ethic, and outgoing personality; and

WHEREAS, Anne DeDobbelaere is survived by her parents; her siblings, Tim (Luz), Jay, Matt (Joan), and Joe (Joni); and her nephews and niece, Ryan, Jack, Adam, Max, Kevin, Will, Sammy, and Meg; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Anne E. DeDobbelaere and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Anne DeDobbelaere as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
