SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Allison "Al" Perring Jr. of Clinton, who passed away on September 27, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Al Perring was born in Midland City to Allison Sr. and Margaret Cox Perring on August 19, 1931; he married Jean Gehlbach in Waynesville on December 29, 1950; and

WHEREAS, Al Perring served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War; after his military service, he returned to Central Illinois and began a life of farming; even though he faced his share of crop losses, machinery breakdowns, and wide fluctuations in market prices, he never questioned his decision, and he never thought of being anything other than a farmer; throughout his career, he maintained a positive attitude and an optimistic outlook on the future of farming; and

WHEREAS, Al Perring's optimism caught the attention of the Salute to Agriculture Program, and he was a finalist for their Farmer of the Year Award; and

WHEREAS, Al Perring was active as a community volunteer and leader, which included positions as the DeWitt County Republican Party Chairman, the Deland Weldon School Board President, and the Nixon Township supervisor; he was a 4-H leader and a Little League coach and official; he was a 33rd degree Mason; and

WHEREAS, Al Perring enjoyed discussing politics, family, farming, and Fighting Illini sports; he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose legacy lives on through his family and community; and

WHEREAS, Al Perring was preceded in death by his parents; his four brothers; and his sisters; and

WHEREAS, Al Perring is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jean; his children, David Perring, Steve (Lee Ann) Perring, and Kathy (Ted) Parge; his six grandchildren; his eight great-grandchildren and one on the way; and his sister-in-law, Phyllis Perring; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Allison "Al" Perring Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Al Perring as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
